on an elliptical, you really dont need to worry too much about top of the line shoes as there is almost no stress on your feet from pounding.  Running shoes are made to protect your feet and cushion them from the constant pounding on the pavement. 

I would just get a decent pair of running shoes that feels good to walk in.  Try on some different brands and models, to see what feels good.</description>
