What’s better the elliptical exercise machine or a stationary bike?

Hubby and I are having a disagreement on whether to purchase a elliptical machine or a stationary bike for the family. Mainly due to the fact that we allowed our son to gain to much weight for his age. Anyway, I think for the best overall cardio workout an elliptical machine would be a better choice for the entire family. My son sits down all day at school so why would I want him to exercise sitting down. What do you think?

I think the elliptical would be the better option also, it targets your core and your moving your whole body instead of sitting
