Treadmill vs. Elliptical vs. Recumbent Bike?
DecibelGal asked:
I know that whether you walk or run a certain distance (let’s use 3 miles) that the calorie burn is the same. If you run the 3 miles, you just get done quicker. My question is this: Is 3 miles walking or running the be the same calorie burn as 3 miles on the treadmill? The Elliptical? A recumbent bike?

No, absolutely not. When you use a machine such as the treadmill, the elliptical, or the recumbent bike, some of the work is done for you due to momentum of the moving parts. They are still good exercises, but they will not make you burn as many calories as you would doing some running or walking.
Bill
the elliptical, also its easier on your joints

Some data and calculation would probably be best answer for the description if anyone has that info.
I will have to look into this calorie shifting some more.
