http://www.exrx.net/Beginning.html check out this site, I think it is great. Basically you need to do aerobic exercise at least 5 days a week for a minimum of 30 minutes. I would also incorporate weight training 2-3x’s/week for 20 – 30 minutes a time. A workout could be full body, with some light dumbells, tubing and/or body weight, you don’t need to join a gym.

Start with the larger muscle groups, legs, back, chest, shoulders, arms.

The ACSM article below is long but very informative.

    Good luck.

Its great to stay on a healthful diet, but you should reward yourself once in a while with something sweet. It is much easier to stay on a diet if you treat yourself once in a while.
Get 100 calorie oreo packets and let yourself have a packet once in a while.
    ……
As for the workout, you need to move all of your muscles to get a more eficient workout, dancing and workouts that have you up off the floor and on your feet work the best. I learned in school also that your fat cells in your body need an even amount of oxygen fat and sugar to burn the fat. This is why starving yourself doesn’t work. When you starve yourself your body doesn’t eat at your fat cells, it eats at your muscles. Also how much you weigh doesn’t matter, its lean weight to fat weight. regular scales aren’t as efficint as fat weight percentage scales. Two people could weight the same and be the same height, but the percentage of fat in their body could be completely different.
My advise is be active all day long and work out two or three times a week. eat healthful foods throughout the week and on the weekend relax. treat yourself once in a while so you wont give up on your diet. And last, make goals of what you want to do, write them down and use this as your motivation.
    Good luck to you =]
