Elliptical vs. Treadmill (Which is better to do for an hour of cardio)?

Jennifer H asked:

I’m trying to lose weight (30 pounds). I’ve been going to the gym 5-6 days a week. I’m trying to do at least an hour of cardio while I’m there. I’ve noticed that I burn more calories on the elliptical but I sweat more on the treadmill. Thanks!

Mike

well both are great, but if you don’t have the proper diet then your workouts that you do will be useless.
and only workout 3 days a week because it gives your body time to heal.

    one love

Elliptical burns more calories and is better on your knees and joints.

Both will give you a great cardio workout. However, the elliptical will also give your upper body a workout and is less stressful on your knee, hip and ankle joints.

Elliptical. Sweat doesn’t mean anything when it comes to losing weight. The more you sweat, the more nutrients that are leaving your body and since sports drinks really are not good for you (too much sugars and carbs and sodium) those nutrients are being lost which put your body at a loss for the nutrition. You should also mix in some weights for your upper body. Nothing too heavy. Just some light weights since the elliptical, even though your arms are moving, it really only works your lower body. You could follow my routine if you would like. =] I do arm weights for about 30 minutes. Ab exercises for 20 minutes. Stair stepper for 15 minutes. Elliptical for 20 minutes. Then the bike for 10 minutes as a warm down. I never touch the treadmill. Its really bad for your knees.

Defintely the Elliptical. The Elliptical burns more calories, is easier on your limbs with a smoothe natural movement. And it works more body parts and muscles. Elliptical wins hands down. However, I suggest doing both, because your body becomes used to the same movement after a while. Do 15 mins of the elliptical, 10-15 of the treadmil, cycling is good too do about 10-15 mins of that and back to the elliptical again. A variety is the best way i think. I guess you already do weight training, but if yo udon’t make sure you do that too because building muscle also helps lose weight and tone you up.
